Savinelli, the worlds No.1 selling pipe Ferrari have given the Italians a reasonable edge in the world of motoring but that's not all they strive at. Since 1876 Savinelli have kept the Italians at the pinnacle of the pipe manufacturing game! Putting the Italian legacy behind us for a minute if you where to look at the Savinelli range you could be forgiven for thinking they are a classic high end British made pipe. We have received a number of comments over the years from our high end pipe customers who believe the quality of the briar and the finish of Savinelli pipes exceed what is strongly regarded as the epitome of the pipe world and they don't demand the same price tag (No names mentioned as we are British through and through)
Savinelli Miele We always enjoy visiting the Savinelli stand at trade shows as there is always something a little different that captures our interest. The Savinelli Miele is undoubtably unique. Miele is Italian for Honey so it was instantly obvious why they have chosen a honeycomb stem, which compliments the light amber stain on the bowl beautifully and we doubt you will ever find anyone who can deny it beauty. What came as a surprise was the seasoning on the pipe. As you bring the pipe up to your nose there is a beautiful aroma of freshly finished briar and honey. We can only imagine how pleasant and sweet and smooth the first few pipe fulls in a Savinelli Miele is going to be. The Savinelli Miele 626 is a classic Half Bent Apple of elegant proportions. The careful balance of keeping enough briar for a good fill and keeping heat down without producing a heavy pipe seems to be dead on with the 626 as it definitely isn't a small pipe but the weight is a mere 38g, which a lot comes down to the quality of the briar that Savinelli are renowned for but most of all experience and knowledge Savinelli carry in pipe making.
Honey Collector Pipe Tamper And just in case this pipe wasn't enough of a talking point they have carried on the Miele theme and included a unique wooden pipe tamper in the shape of a Honey Dripper/Spoon/Collector (or whatever one is called.) We are not sure what type of wood it is made from but it is made primarily of a light Pine style wood to keep the weight down then appears to have a Briar plug on the base.
6mm Balsa wood filter Unique to Savinelli is their Balsa wood filter system. The triangular shape does not form a seal in the bore of the pipe so allows an unrestricted full flavoured draw but the extremely porous and highly absorbent nature of the Balsa wood is very effective at removing moisture and impurities from the smoke. Savinelli include an adaptor for those who prefer a totally unfiltered smoke.
MARBLED STEMS: The marbled mouthpiece in this picture is a one off and is unlikely to be the exact mouthpiece you will receive. There is variation from pipe to pipe with substantial differences in colours, patterns and marbling.
