Proper care helps butane lighters deliver a clean, reliable flame. Always use high-quality refined butane, as this reduces clogging and keeps the internal valve system functioning smoothly. When refilling, bleed any remaining gas from the lighter by pressing the refill valve with a small tool until the hissing stops; this prevents trapped air from creating an airlock.

Once empty, hold the lighter upside down and refill with short, firm bursts until full. Allow a minute or two for the butane to stabilise before ignition. If an airlock does occur, bleeding the valve again and repeating the fill usually clears it.

Flame height should be adjusted to suit the task, using the control wheel or screw on the base. Keep the jets clear by occasionally blowing away dust or using compressed air. Avoid storing butane lighters in extremely hot environments, and ensure the ignition mechanism remains free of debris for consistent performance.
