The Butz Choquin Calabash Junior is a more affordable version of the Calabash 2000 Briar Smoking pipe. It wouldn’t seem out of place in a Sherlock Holmes movie, but more as his traveling companion than his office pipe. Although the Junior is the 2000s’ smaller sibling, it’s still not a small pipe.

It should fit comfortably in an average coat pocket yet still has a fairly deep bowl to allow for a generous fill and protect the char from the wind and flaring up. The briar wall is still of a good thickness to prevent the pipe from overheating, while a long, exaggerated curved stem provides ample time for the smoke to cool, resulting in a smoother, cooler smoke.

The lipped head of the bowl helps you get a good grip, similar to a Nonic pint glass (the one with the lip that the bar person gives you after a few too many to save cleaning the dustpan and brush).

The Butz Choquin Calabash Junior Pipe incorporates a reusable metal filter system. The metal filter is suspended in the middle of a moisture trap, forcing the smoke to spiral around the cool metal before entering the stem. This process causes condensation, which naturally removes tar and moisture deposits from the smoke, trapping them in the shank for a cool and pleasant smoking experience. Simply wipe clean between smokes.

The metal filter can be removed entirely for smokers who prefer a completely unrestricted, full-bodied smoke.
