Barling Pipes Barling started off as a Silversmiths in the late part of the 1700s. Sensing an opportunity, Benjamin Barling began outfitting Meerschaum bowls with exquisite silver mountings. The company received recognition for their work at The Great Exhibition in 1851. Over the ensuing years, they transitioned into carving their own Briar pipes and subsequently Barling pipes continue to occupy a special place in the pipe world. Their engineering and craftsmanship were impressively advanced for their time and significantly influenced how pipes would be made in the following decades.
Barling Trafalgar The Very Finest 1819 The Barling Trafalgar 1819 "The Very Finest" is a classic English curved Rhodesian made from, you guessed it, The very finest briar blocks. Only the best of the best make it, as the pipes are sanded and given a light natural stain which leaves no space for covering up blemishes and imperfections. Each pipe comes with a hammered nickel band and the classic lions head metal inlay on the stem. The name is a tribute to Trafalgar Square, just half a mile from Golden Square where Benjamin Barling first registered as a jeweller in 1820.
9mm Absorbent Filter The Trafalgar pipes are designed for use with the any 9mm absorbent stem filters. The larger diameter allows more smoke to pass through the filter, with less restriction, which makes for a better draw compared to the 6mm filters. The highly absorbent filters have a very high surface area resulting in excellent absorption of the tar as the smoke passes through without affecting draw or flavour. The pipes have a standard 9mm bore so can be used with any brand of 9mm filter if preferred. Alternatively the filter can be removed altogether for smokers who prefer a totally un-restricted full on smoke.
