Barling Pipes Barling started off as a Silversmiths in the late part of the 1700s. Sensing an opportunity, Benjamin Barling began outfitting Meerschaum bowls with exquisite silver mountings. The company received recognition for their work at The Great Exhibition in 1851. Over the ensuing years, they transitioned into carving their own Briar pipes and subsequently Barling pipes continue to occupy a special place in the pipe world. Their engineering and craftsmanship were impressively advanced for their time and significantly influenced how pipes would be made in the following decades.
Barling Marylebone Ye Olde Wood 1815 The Barling Marylebone 1815 "Ye Olde Wood" is a classic English straight billiard made from high quality aged briar. First introduced in 1913, only the best briar blocks are put through an extensive aging process before they can be given the "YOW" stamp. Each pipe has a metal lions head logo inset on the stem. The name is a tribute to the district of London not far from Regents Park where Benjamin Barling founded his first workshop back in 1812.
9mm Absorbent Filter The Marylebone pipes are designed for use with the any 9mm absorbent stem filters. The larger diameter allows more smoke to pass through the filter, with less restriction, which makes for a better draw compared to the 6mm filters. The highly absorbent filters have a very high surface area resulting in excellent absorption of the tar as the smoke passes through without affecting draw or flavour. The pipes have a standard 9mm bore so can be used with any brand of 9mm filter if preferred. Alternatively the filter can be removed altogether for smokers who prefer a totally un-restricted full on smoke.
