Brebbia Brebbia was initially the result of a partnership between Brebbia founder Enea Buzzi and Achille Savinelli of Savinelli pipes, the pair began manufacturing pipes in 1947 in Italy and now produce nearly 35 thousand air cured briar pipes annually. Brebbia continue an almost 70 year tradition of pipe making, following the same 50 step process, They use the same antique machine lathes for the early stages of pipe production while finishing every piece by hand. The designs are modern takes on Italian classics, and are often smooth, sandblasted in a tumbler or wire wheel rusticated. Some of the stems are hand cut from cumberland rod, but the majority are preform vulcanite or acrylic bits, and all tenons are a Brebbia designed inserted tenon which often fit a sleeved mortise.
1960 Series One of Brebbias less frequently seen designs, the 623 is a neat little 3-quarter bent Rhulldog presented in a high gloss jet black sandblast, The difference between a Rhodesian and a Bulldog has been a matter for discussion in the pipe world since their inception. As a general rule of thumb, if the height of the bowl is greater than the width it is a Bulldog, otherwise it is a Rhodesian, If it has a round Shaft it is a Rhodesian or a square shaft it is a Bulldog, Some say if it has a straight shaft it is a Bulldog, If it is bent it is a Rhodesian, therefore this is a Rhulldog (or a Bhodesian, we couldn't decide) It has been finished with a black acrylic saddle tenon stem accented with a light stain briar band. This classic style is a perfect size for a hands free jacket pocket pipe.
