Germain’s British Pipe Tobacco’s: One of the last remaining true British Pipe Tobacco blenders. Renowned for their very “British” style with unique recipes dating back nearly a century! Germains Tobacco is notoriously difficult to obtain and such demand is always high from this characterful factory in Jersey.
Germains Rich Dark Flake Pipe Tobacco: Rich Dark Flake was produced specifically for the UK market in response to high demand for the Stonehaven blend that is produced solely for the US as part of the Esoterica range. Esoterica is not available in the UK due to the usual flamboyance of red tape so this is Germains answer. The Rich Dark Flake is blended the traditional way using the same core base tobacco’s of Virginia and Burley. The flakes are dark Brown and almost Black in places due to the long curing process which brings out the natural sugars and depth of flavour. This produces a full bodied smoke so is recommended for the experienced smoker. This is a truly remarkable blend that really stands out from the norm. The flakes are finer than we usually see which makes for easier preparation and a slightly different burning characteristic. A must try for any flake fanatic!
Esoterica Stonehaven Similarity: We have been reliably informed that the highly sort after Stonehaven is made using the same blend as the Rich Dark Flake. Therefore the Rich Dark Flake is the closest Tobacco you will get to match Stonehaven in the UK.
Flake Pipe Tobacco: The Germain’s Rich Dark Flake Pipe tobacco is sold in flake form. Flake tobacco requires rubbing (breaking up) before it can be smoked. The tobacco can be rubbed to the smokers preference depending on whether they prefer a slow or fast burn rate.
Delicate Flakes: Please note that Germains Flakes are more delicate/finer flakes than from other manufacturers. This makes them very easy to crumble and rub out but also means that they often don't resemble flakes after movement in transit. So please expect something that resembles a broken flake than the neat flakes you get from other manufacturers.
